INTRODUCTION TO TOOLS

Presentations have been developed by the Drug Education Forum and Young Peoples Substance Misuse Team for professionals to deliver.

Introduction to keeping your child safe toolkit
This presentation toolkit has been designed to be used in schools and community settings.  Its aim is to provide the relevant information needed to plan and deliver an event where parents and carers are given the opportunity to gather information and ideas that can help towards keeping their child safe.

The tool kit provides power point presentations and trainer notes on a number of different topics that are relevant to the needs of young people growing up in Hertfordshire.

It is envisaged that an overall coordinator should take lead responsibility to organise the event. This may be a Head Teacher, Extended Schools Coordinator, PSHE coordinator, Connexions PA, Youth Crime Reduction Officer or Youth Worker.

Their role, with the support of others, would be to book a venue and promote the event to parents/carers.  The coordinator may also take responsibility to deliver the information or call on a trainer who has experience in delivering information to large groups.

Why produce a toolkit?
Over the past 15 years there have been various parent evenings on drug awareness delivered in school settings.  The majority of these events have been poorly attended with little evidence on their effectiveness.

The Hertfordshire Drug Education Forum (DEF) felt that a more holistic approach would be beneficial to address the overall needs of young people, their family and the local community.

The delivery of these presentations to parents and carers will contribute to the Hertfordshire Children's and Young Peoples Plan 2006 - 2009 and the delivery of the Every Child Matters: Change for Children Agenda.

The coordinator may also take responsibility to deliver the information or call on a trainer who has experience in delivering information to large groups.

All presentations are in a 'read only' format, therefore, they can not be amended. If, however, you would like to adapt any presentation to cover a more local focus or include your organisation then please contact:
Jane Holton on 01438 843 879 for further guidance.

To view the slide once opened please click on the 'read only' box.
To use the slides as a PowerPoint presentation they must be saved on to your computer first.
