The Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) has provided downloadable drug education units of work on their web site.www.qca.org.uk. These cover the following topics:

• Unit A Keeping ourselves and others safe
• Unit B Risk-taking and dealing with pressure
• Unit C Building knowledge and understanding about drugs   and alcohol - practicing skills to deal with situations
• Unit D Drugs, alcohol, tobacco and the law - a local national   and global issue
• Unit E Why do people use drugs?
• Unit F Managing risk
• Unit G Giving and receiving support

A teaching booklet is also available on line Drugs, alcohol and tobacco education: Curriculum guidance for schools at key stages 1-4 (QCA, 2003)and each unit provides guidance on delivering the lesson and how it links to other topics across the school curriculum. Some examples within the units could be adapted for out of school settings.
